Taranaki, at McLean Park, Napier, Tho field had .been well soaked by rain yesterday and early this morning, but "did not appoar greasy. The absence of the All Black oentre threequarter, Sullivan-, from the Taranaki side came as a disappointment to ihe spectators, who were eager to see if the Hawke's Bay vanguard could cope with the speed and brilliance of a first-claSs three-quarter such as Sullivan has proved himself to be. However, two of the visiting pack, Fas* tier and O'Dowda, who had given^ « good account of themselves both inl the trial games and in Taranaki 'i match with the . South Africans> are playing. Threatening weather accounted fdr the fact that the attendance at the game was not a great one, there "being about 3,000 present shortly before" the commencement of play.
