Race Betweeti Awatea and Mariposa? KEEN INTEREST DISPLAYED (Received 28, 11,30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. '28. Prior to eailing yesterday, Oaptain Davey Baid he had not been offieially informcd of the proposed ilve hours' delay in the Awatea 's departure from Auckland next Friday, but he would welcome it, because it would put the vessel on its inettle and give her an opportunity of showing her prowess. Captain Davey emphasised that there would be uo speeding if the weather was rough. The Sydnev Morning Herald says: "If there is a race between the Awatea and the Mariposa it will be watched with the keenest interest, not o'nly on both sides of the Tasman, but in Britain and America also, as it will become SQ|nething more than a race between two rival liners — it will be an international lnateh with tho prestige of two great maritime natiOns at stake."
