Cartridge Embedded in Firewood Explodes

WAIPAWA, Last Night. A young girl was slightly hurt when a piece of firewood suddenly exploded at the home of Mr W. Spicer, Waipawa. The explosion blew out the front 6f the kitchen stove and the girl, who waS sitting some distance away, was struck by a flying fragment and received serious cut. Portions of an old cartridge c,a.^3 were later found among the debris, and it is believed that the cartridge, an old type, probably lost on.a pig-hunting expedition* had been embedded by a growing tree to become a potentii&.li danger when the tree was cut up for firewood.
