Apparent Rescue Attempt BODIES FOUND IN RIVER

SYDNEY, Aug. 20. Thought at first to have been tho victim of foul piay, the body of M'm Mary St. George, agcd 52, waitress at a Sydney restaurant, was recovered at circumsfances which indicated that f.ho tad been accidentally drowned. The body of Victor Millett, aged 60, wa3 found with Miss St. George 's, and it is aimost certain that he lost his life in .trving to save Miss St. Goo.'-ge after ahe had fallen from their rowingboat. When the woman left her home on Auguet 1, stating that she was going for a picnic, and did not return or appear at the restaurant, the polico forintd the theory that she had been murdued For several days, including all last week-end, they intensively searchcd serub at popular pienie tqsorts. It was not until Tuesday afternoon that the mystery ended. On the day following Mi3s St. George 's disappearance, the proprietor of a boat-sbed at Audley found floating npturned on the river a boat which he had hired out to a man and woman. He told t"he police last .Tuesday that Iie had not attached any eigniflcance to the discovery at the time, as picnic parties frequently left the boats they hired from him on the banks u.f the river.
