UNSIGHTLY HOARDINGS

-Press Association.)

MOTORISTS' COMMENT

(By Telegraph-

WANGANUI, Last Night. "The New Zealand Railways Advertising Department is the worst offiender, but it does not come under the Act," declared a delegate when the question of (Bliminating roadside hoardings was under eonsideration at the annual conference of the North Island Motor Union to-day. ■ Mr F. Amoore (Taranaki) said th« union was' not likely to receive any eonsideration when the Government — not the pTesent Government alone, but all Governmeuts — was the chief offender. • There was the spectacle of rail•way stations so blocked up with hoardings advertising whisky and beer that it was even hard to see the trains. The union could not expect to receive much satisfaction until the Government put its own house in order. A motion by Mr H. C. C. Shepherd (Wairarapa) that the matter be referred to the New Zealand Road Safety Council was lost, and a motion by Mr E. P. Hay (Wellington) that the matter be referred to the executive for eonsideration was carried.
