MANAWATU COMPETITIONS
Hawke's Bay Successes Hawke 's Bay competitors again secured a large share of tbe awards at tbe Manawatu Competitions Society 's restival at Palmerston North yesterday. Miss Joy Thear, Hastings, was first in tbe operatie dancej under 10 years, and first for the character story danee,. under 14 years. Miss Nola Thear was second in the latter class, and fourth for test dance, operatie, under 14 years. Mi&s Patty Miller, Hastings, was fourth for character or demi-character dance, under 8 years. In tbe test recitation, girls under 16 years, Misses Ivena Pothan, Valerie McGombe, and Agnes Dpton, all of Hastings, were first, second and third respectively, with one point between eaeh in tbe ■placings. Miss Ivena Pothan also gained first in the character or deinieharacter dance, 14 and under 18 years, and, with Miss Vida Hayes, Hastings, was suceessful in the class for dance duo, 34 years, and over. Miss Yvonne Ausin, Napier, was second for recitation for girls under 12 years, restncted. Miss Valerie Presling, Napier, was third equal for character story dance, under 14 years.
