Railway Official Predicts Single Ownership

AUCKLAND, This Day. A prediction that, within twelve months, the business of carrying goods between the principal cities and towns of the Dominion would be conducted under single ownership conditions, was made this morning by Mr H. C. Couch, distriet traffic manager of the Eailways Department, Auckland, when a number of applications for the renewal of goods service licenses were before the No. 3 Licensing Autliority. The Autliority pointed out that shortdated licenses had previously been given to operators to enable the Eailways Department to'negotiate for the purchase of services and, under the existing conditions, operators had no sense of seeurity. He stressed the desirability of the Department expediting negotiations for pureliases so that the.fate of various services could he determined , once and for all- ' N .
