China Accepts British Plan WITHDRAW IF JAPAN AGREES
EUGBY, Aug. 24. The Chinese Embassy in I/ondon made public tliis afternoon the following telegram received from Nanking:--"The Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs has informed the British Ambassador to-day that China is prepared to afccept the British proposal in principle for the immediate withdrawal of the forces — including men-of-war — from the Shanghai area, with protection of the Japanese settlements and extra settlement of roads entrusted to foreign authorities, if such proposal is accepted by Japan.'* The evacuation of foreigners from Shanghai continues, the total of those who have left being 18,000. The Chinese Government has appointed a committee headed by the former Finance Minister, Sung Tsmwen, te promote the sale of a 50,000,000-doilar , isgufi .of aatioaal salvatioft bonds* •
