Rebuilding In Order oi Urgency MINISTER'S STAfEMENT

By Telesraph

WELLINGTON, Last Night. • • • The intention of the Government to ' push forward steadily with the xe-con-struction of Court-houses in the order of urgency in those places in jthe Dominion where the existing buildings and facilities were unsatisi'actory was m,entioned by the Minister of justice (Hon. H,. G. xi. Mason), when referring to-night to tho presentation by .the Grand Jury concerning the court buLding at New PJymouth. The foundation stone of :the new Blenheim Court'-houso had jiist been laid, plans for the Hew Invercargill Court-house were now . ready and plans for the new Courtlipuao afc Christchurch wero in course of preparation. Some preliminary preparations were being 'made. with a view to re-building .Ihe New PJymouth Court-house, but no serious progiess would bo pos3ible v/ith ; tho aetual work until the Christchurch ' plans were out of hand as the Christ- , ch'urch job was a particularly big oue. This meant it would not bo possible to considCr tho serious part of the New' PJymouth work before the coming year ! was well advanced. The Minister said he regretted as inuch as anyone the most uusatisfac- , tory condition of affairs at New PJymouth. XJnfortunateJy, however, a great number of Court-houses had similarly been allowed to fall below the proper standard. It was not possible to re-build them all at once, but the progranime of re-construction would be pushed forward steadily and he believcd the coming year • would not elapse before work would be commenced on a new building in which New PJymouth would be entitled to talce pride.
