MRS. ELLEN WILLIS

A resident .of Hastings -for over 60 years, Mrs -EUen Willis, passed away at the age of 78 years at her residence in Lyndon road, Hastings, on Monday. Mrs Willis came out to:New Zealand from England in the. ship Renfrewshire in 1878. The late Mrs. Willis - was born in Somerset, England, in„ 1859. Her husband, Mi\ Robert Willis, " whom she married after she came' . to -New Zealand and who was in business in Hastings as a cab proprietor, predeeeased her 33 years ago. Mrs Willis took a ! keen interest -in,the- growth Qf Hastings and was well-known in jthe town. Since the death of Mr -Willis, Mrs Willis had lived with her sister, Mrs Emily WiUis,. who is now almost 84. It is interesting to note tHat "the two sisters married two brothers,vboth being predeeeased by' their husbands. There were no children "of the marriage. ; , The funeral took place this afternoon.
