Hawke's Bay Successes

. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Two first awards wero gained by Brian Hasler, of Hastings, at the fourth day of the Wellington Competition Society Js annual i'estival yesterday. This youug competitor was first in the recitation for boys of 10 to 12 years aud first also for boys' xeading at sight, under 12 years. in'the voeal duet, under 16. both the first and seeond places fell to Napier entrants. Shirley Broadman and Menai Owen gained first place, with Noel Mahoii and Bernard Reads second. In the song for girls, 14 to 16 years, Nancy Gilroy, of Napier, was first, and Margaret Clune, also of Napier, was highly commended. . . Miss Gonstanee Dewson, Hastings, gained second place in Turnbull and Jones, Ltd. 's eloeution seholaTship, 16 to 21 years. The judge, Professor Maxwell Walker, described Miss DewsonJs performance as an outslanding oue, her actions being exccllent.
