W.D.F.U. HOLD PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the provine.ial executive of the Women 's Division Earmcrs' IJnion, was held in the division's room on Friday, Mrs Honeybun presiding and the foliowing braneh delegates being present, Mrs John Joll, secretary, Mrs H. Beamish, treasurer Sherenden), Mrs Tod (Wairoa), Mesdames J. H. Joll, H. Thompson, F. Dunn, Talbot and Mrs L. W. Goldflnch (Press correspondent). After reciting the Creed the presidenf extended a welcome to all present. Mrs Honeybun, who was one of the delegafes at the recent conference in Wellington, said that she felt proud to belong to such an organisation as the Wonicn's Division Farmers' Union. The women speakers who had such a fine grasp of their subjects and those who si>oke on tho remits they presented wcre siffendid. Mrs Honeybun said that in the past thero had been a little misunderstanding as to the term "visitors' privilege. " This ineant that the quarterly meeting of the executive was open to all members of the W.D.F.U.* and they could take part i ji all disciissious. Friends who were interestcd wcre also welcome to attcnd. Jn concluding -her interestrng. address, the president said that it was her ititention to visit all the branclies in this province during tho summer months and to open -new branches wbere such- are desired and so further the work of tho organisation. Mrs II. Thompson gave a resume of the work done for the quarter, saymg there Were six ' hqusekeepers and one young " girl prohatiouer employed in Hawke's Bay -at present and inany more could -be placed were they available, as the demaiid for housekeepers in the country far e^ceeded the piyMrs J. H. Joll gave a most interestirig report of the inter-provincial confCrence in Da'nne.virke, which. she attended as a delegate frbm'the braneh, ■when a very large nuinber of delegates and membbrs attended and much good work had .been aecompiished. * Mrs John Joll 'gave some of her impressions of the recent conference in Wellington and of a meeting of lxouse-kepper-secretaries which she had the' privilege . of attending and which she found niost helpful. Mrs L*. \V. "Goldlinch then gave a very full accotmt of the four-days conference in Wellington : which ehe at* tended as delegate from the executive. The most important remits passed were given, and all aspects of the conference rcviewed as well as tho social side of the. gatheriiig. She mentioned a debate by Mrs Livingstone (Dannevirko)and Mrs Macintosh (Southland) who took the aflirmative' and two niembers of the Farmers' Union, Mr Sheat and Mr Biichan on the proposal, "That in order to placc the Tural population on- an -cqual f'ooting' with- the townspeople, tho Governiuent bo urged to press forward with the endeavour to breed a 40-hour cow." This debate was given; at ,one of the . social evenings. .The judges chose the division members as the Yvinners. Mrs Goldlinch was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for •her report. ; After a . delicious af ternoon tea had been enjoyed, Mrs Honeybun being the hostess, Mrs Chapman Taylor, Havelock • North, • gavo a most inf ormal but earnest talk on. "Social Purity." Members wero very muoh impressed with the speaker's. earnest desire to do all sh could to help the young people of this land, by pointing out the ' dangers that "beset . their path aa they travel the rough road of life. At the con* clOsion of her able and courageous address Mrs Chapman Taylor was cordi'ally thanked and was assurcd of the co-operation-and help of division members in tiio good work she is doing tiiroughout tho country by her enlightening talks.
