Raiis Laid at Motuhora Junction

GISBORNE, Ang. 20. An event of outstanding interest in the construction of the Napier-Gis-borne scction of the East Coast main trunk xailway occurred when the first set of rails were laid on the formation I near Stanlcy road. This point marks I the junction of the main line with the ; Gisborne-Motuhora branch, and the ; curve now being put .in, commencing j from the siding at Stanley road, later Will be replaced by permanent construction connecting directly with the existing line between Stanley road and the station at Gisborne. It is expected that plate-laying will proceed rapidlv southward from Stanley road toward the site of the Waipaoa ' River railway bridge, the construction of which is now well advanced. The distance between the junction and the bridge site is approximately five miles, and between the two points there will be two stations, one: having facilities for handling largo' numbers of stoek outward bonnd from Poverty Bay. The Railwaya Departmont evidently. looks to the stoek-carrying business aaj one of the main pillars of the project, and it is understood thafc the stock-' loading facilities to be installed at the station at the Willow Settlement will be tho fuost comprehensive to be found! any where in New Zealand. Thia station; will be inost accessible from Matawhero- saleyards, and its regular uso vrill remove the stock-droving handicap from the main highway in the more distant part of the Poverty Bay flats.
