ORMONDVILLE CHURCH

Our Own Corrcspondent.)

Parishioners Meet

(From

ORMONDVILLE, Saturday. The Rcv. Canon Cullwick presided over the annual meeting of parishioners of the Ormondville parochial district. Although the attendance was not as large as in some years, it was represcntative. Aftcr opening with prayer, the vicar's report was read. This dealt \ery largeiy with the financial aspoct tas is nsual at sueh gatherings. The year dealt with in the report and balanee-sheet, ending June 30, 1937, was one of unusual difliculty as the hooks had to be kept for the iirst eight months by an acting vicar, for three months by the vicar, who was leaving, and for one nionth by the present incumbent. Un-der such cireumstances some confusion was inevitablc, and after much voluntary worlc on the part of Mr George Studd, as auditor^ the accounts had beeu referred to the diocesan seeretary, Mr R. Pilson, who had been able to strike a balance and audit the books. The accounts show a dobit balance, which should not have occurred in a more prosp.crous year than many previous ones. . Speaking of the spirifual iside of the work, the vicar spoke of the loss sustained by the death of Miss AiiuiiWebb, for many years a Sunday school worker, and latterly superintpndent of the Ormondville Sunday School, and Seoutmistress of the Chureh. Scout Troop. He also expressed gratitude to Miss Higgins for valued help in tha Sunday School during Miss A. Webb's absence through illness, and. to Mrs Ilosking and Miss Ella Brabazon for carrying on the work so ably. The work of the Sunday' schools, he said, was of great value to the church, and tlianks were also due to Miss Sehaare, superintendent at Makotuku, and to Mr J. Edgeley at Norsewoodi whose place had been iillcd during his illness by Mrs Boultby. lievi'ewing the work in the light of the .future, the canon expressed disappointment that the members of the church attended the services so poorly. Some few of these services would be omitted in futuro and printed plans would be issu'ed shortly showing that services would be held in . each centre on each • Sunday. -To the lay-readers, Mr R. II. Jones, Mr T. Fothergill and Mr J. Edgeley, the thanks of the . vicar and parishioners were given, as also to the 'churchxyardens and vestry. Special thanks were also given to Mr E. Sinith for wiliiiigly undertaking tho positioJi of treasurer, as weU as seeretary to the vestry, and thus fre-eing the vicar from the worry"'of parochial finance. The balance-sheot was read and adoptcd, a vote of thanks being aecorded lo Messrs G. Studd and R. Pilson. Votes of ' thanks xvere also passcd to tho churchwardens, Afessrs , E. J. Poulton and G. France, and the vestry. The vicar appointed Mr G. France his warden, Mr Poulton being elected people 's warden and representative to the Diocesan Synod.
