"BEST 'BRITISH' FILMS ARE AMERICAN-MADE"
The Ontario Board of Censors of Motion Pietures, for the year to the cnd of March, reports that in that period its experts reviewed seven million feet of film, in 2107 subjects, of which 1785 were approved as submitted, 369 approved after deletjons were made, while only three ' were thrown out. British films were submitted to the number of 127, a slight increase over the preceding year, 96 being passed as submitted and 31 with oertain changes. In this connection. the board makes th© following Comment : — "The board regrets. to report that a much greater number of deletions have to be made in British films than in those from other countries. Of the British films submitted cuts were made in 24.4 per cent eompared with 17.5 per cent of all submitted requiring alterations. The board suggests this may "be due to the fact that British producers have not liad the years of experience beliind tho'se in the TJnited States — and these years of experience have apparently taught producers that clean films pay them best. There have been several notable films recently dealing with British history and literature, but the board notes a strange paradox —
the best 'British' films are Americanmade." The board' s rules of censorship are these : It will not pass displays of the ilude human forro , ridicule of any race or any religious sect, prolonged and pas sionate love scenes "when suggestive bf immorality," loose conduct between men qnd women, scenes of drinking and of crime, etc.
