INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
Additional Land Purchased lor Hastings Site Purchase of an additional two and a kalf acres of land adjacent to tHe area already acquired fronting Karamu Toad «n which to erect an intermediate school in Hastings was decided upon this morning. This decision now determines the site of the proposed new intermediate school, application for which was approved by a meeting of school committeemen last evening. An inspection of the property was made this morning by the Director of Education, Mr N. T. Lambourne, in company with' the Mayor, Mr G. A. Madlison, in his capaeity as chairman of tlie Hawke's Bay Education Board, Mr E. L, Cullen, M.P., and other repreeentatives of the board. Some years ago an area of abont 54 acres was purchased vrith the idea of providing a site for the new Hastings Central School which it was proposed to construct. This scheme was shelved, however, and, thcugh recently revived, it has been agreed that the new Central School buildings shonld oecupy the present school site. This change in the proposal provided the Department with an ideal site for the intermediate school, and, with the acquisition of the small additional aTea, there will be a linking together of the intermediate and secondarv schools. "It was agreed that the small strip of land leading from the main site of the intermediate schoo' to the high school be purchased," said Mr Maddison this morning. "lfhis will mean that the intermediate school . will have an area of about eight acres, which shonld meet the requirementa for some time."
