Air Photograph Reveals Northern Ireland Earthwork
BELFAST. — A photograph taken from an airplane has been responsible for bringing to light in County Antrim . Northern Ireland, a relic of bygone agcs in the f orm of an earthwork between Hyde Park and Templepatrick, 10 miles west of Belfast. The discovcry is regavded as one of the most important in thc archaeological field in Ireland. Thc earthwork surrounds tho piclurcsque outcrop known as Lyle Hill. WingCommander AVright, Eoyal Air Force, first drew the attcntion of the Ancient Monument.? Comniittee to this earthwork, whose unusual size, 300 yards iVi diameter, distinguislied it from the ratlis and forts which abound in the nciglibourhood. Inspection resulted in tl\e finding of potsherds of Neolithic type- Excavation work is now in progress undcr the dircction of Mr E. E. Evans, of Queen's Universify.
