COUNTRY DANCING PARTY GIVES PLEASURE TO MANY
An evening of much fun and pleasure was had by all who were present at the party arranged by the members of the country dancing circle of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild, and held in the Barrie Studio, Hastings, last night. That this splendid form of exercise and entertainment is fully appreciated by young and old was evident by the large number of dancers and onlookers who were present, and all agreed that the party was one of the best so far arranged by the circle. * All the dancers were kept busy by Mrs. Sarah Jones, who acted as M.C., and was assisted by the Misses Joan Lovell-Smith, Lulu Wyatt, Hazel Tyers and Alix Rochfort, among the dances on the programme being Butterfly, Black Nag, First of April, the Pleasures of the Town, TJpon a Summer Day, Three Meet, Lady Spellor, Ruf ty *Tuf ty, the Boatman, Newcastle, the Comical Fellow, Whirligig, None Snch and Sellinger's Round. In the lesser-known dances several of the members gave an exhibition first, and then the others danced later. Once again Mrs. S. I. Jones played the accompaniment, and every member preesnt appreciated her kindness in giving up an evening to assist their dancing. Members of the other circles of *the guild contributed several items which were interspersed with the dances. The Iiterary circle gave a play-reading which was splendid, and caused much amusement. The play chosen was "A Marriage Has Been Arranged (Alfred Sutro) and the cliaracters were as follows: Mr. Harrison Crockstead, Mrs. F. Jackson; Lady Alice De Yaux, Mrs. J. C. Taylor. Miss Heleri Ford, the Iiterary circle leader, announced the play. Musie circle members presented "The Second Minuet," a song and dance for which Miss B. McHutchon, the music circle leader, played the accompaniment. The item received a hearty encore. Those taking part were: Mesdames Whetstone, Macaulay, Jenkinson and Kirkman, Misses E. Compton and D. McLean. Yocal items, which were very much enjoyed, were sung by Mrs. G. Marsicano, who chose GHine e Hinc" and "The Cap In The Hedge." Later in the evening two charming songs were sung by Miss E. Compton, "Hills of My Desire, " and as an encore, Rivini's Serenade. The beautifnlly arranged bowl of flowers in which iceland poppies, jonquils and buddleia were intermingled with maiderihair fern, which stood on the stage, was brought hy Mrs. Dyer. The country dancing circle were pleased to have present Mrs. A. F. Glenny, president of the Hastings Townswomen's Guild, and also the secretary, . Mrs. , F. Deans, as well as a very large number of interested Guild members. ' •' • A most tempting supper was enjoyed during an interval in the programme.
