Tlie members of the MaraetotaraWaimarama Women '3 Instituto hold their August meeting at Mrs. F. Field 's home, MrS. EUiott prcsiding . over a [ good 'attendance Of members. One neW member was enrolled. The roll-call, "Habits of Native Birds," was very well responded to and brought forth some Very interesting bird customs. A bird cOmpetitioil held later in the afternoon cause.d much thought and was Woxx by Mrs. Edgecombe. Mrs. EDiott then dntrOduced Mrs. Lindsay Gordon, who demonstrated Patapar cookery. This demonstfation was both instrhctive and interesting and a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Gordon. The monthly competition, best sponge sandwich, was judged by Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Otene and the award was as follows: Mrs. King 1, Mrs. ifigger 2. A tempting afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and an enjoyable afterDOon elosed with the singbig of the fsational Anthem. Duriiig tli'e month the member, s met at Mrs. Thom's hotno to bid faroweit to Mrs. Steeoson, who is leaving the
district. Miss Betty Gilray gave an enjoyable recitatien and competitions and games followed. The eoinpetitioft winners were Mrs. Elliott and Miss'MeQuilkan. The president expressed regret at tho departure of Mrs. Steenson and asked her to accept a crystal vase as a token of the esteem in which she was held by her fellow Institute membera. A dolicious tea was sefved and a happy afternoon elosed with the singing of "For She '3 a Jolly Good Fellow."
