OBITUARY
MRS EMILY RICE Tho doath, has occurred of a very old Auckland resident, Mrs. Ernily Rice, widow of the late Mr. Yincent E. Rice. Boru at Eton, Windsor, iu 1847, Mrs. Rice came to New Zealaud at the age of seven with her parcnts, the lato Mr. aud Mrs. Josepk Brown, in tho ship Josepliine Willis. As friends of Bishop Selwyn, Mr .and Mrs. Brown went first to St. Jokn's " Collegc, Tamaki, and then made their kome in Hobson street. Mr. Brown was organist at St. Mattkew's Church and was the origimjj. conductor of the Auckland Choral Society, of which his daugkter was a member. Mrs. Rice was married in St. Mattkew's in 1869. She was for most of her life a regular attendant at the Church of the Holy Sepulehre, where her husband was organist for more than 40 years. Mrs. Rice leaves one son, the Rev. Canon E. D. Rice, of Waipukurau, and six daughters, of whom two reside in England, two in South .Af riea and two in New Zealaud. There aro 18 grand- . children and hiae great-grandciuldren.
