BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY'S EVENING AT ONGAONGA
Members of the piano group of the Central Hawke's Bay branch of the British Music Society met at the liome of Mrs Gerald Wilson, Ongaonga, on Monday night and spent an evening devoted to mnsie of earlier centuries. The rich blue velvet window drapings in the spacious music room, made a charming background for the tall crystal vases of japonica, which decorated the mantelpiece. A low table in the middle of the room was topped with a big crystal floating bowl of georgeous mixed spring tiowers, A buifet supper was served in tho dining room. The table was covered with a Chinese linen cloth. and decoiated with bowls of spring flowers. Mrs Wilson received her guests wearing a becoming floral georgotte i'rock with a smart coatee of navy tafL'eta.
Among those present were: Mesdames P. A. Riddle, P. C. Andersen, F. V. Ward, J. L. Braithwaite, B. Mathieson, E. C. Collins, Trevor Black, F. J. Dunbar, Pitt, Middleton (New Plymouth), Boon (New Plymouth), Misses V. Witherow, J. Robertson, N. Mathieson, A. Hutt, J. McKay, Helen Johnston; Messrs E. T. Haldane, E. G. Collins and Pitt. The programme presented was as follows: Miss J. Robertson, Largo (Handel); Miss H. Johnston, Capriccio (Searlatti); Mr Haldane (vocal), "Deh Vienni Alla Finistra, " Don Juan (Mozart), and Wild Rose (Schubert); Miss K". Riddle, Sarabande and Gigue (Zipoli) ; Mrs Pitt, Chorale Prelude (Bach, arr. Busino) and Scherzo in C sharp (Chopin) ; Miss N. Mathieson, Adagio, Pathetique Sonata, and Ecossaise (Beethoven); Mr Collin (vocal), Within These Sacred Bowers (Mozart) and Silent Worship (Handel); Mls» Witherow, Pathetique Sonata (Beethoven); Mrs G. Wilson, Allemande (Maurice Green), Hornpipe (Purcell), His Best (Farnaby); Mrs P. 0. Anderson, Chorale Prelude (Bach), Gavotte and Minuet (Handel); Miss A. Hutt, A Little Waltz (Mozart), La Ooninigre (Couperin).
