Mortgage-Adjustment Cases MINISTER EXPLAINS DELAY
(By TelesrapL
BLENHEIM, Last Night. Reference to the time takcn to reach a decision in some mortgage adjustmer.t cases, which proved to bo of a eomplcx and varied nature, was made by the Minister of Justice, Hon. H. G. B. Mason, in an iuterview to-day.^Judicial work, he said, naturally took time and the parties involved had also to be giveh time to prepare their Cases and the Courts time to hear them. Tho result was that some little while must elapse before all the work was disposcd of. ' • There were 35,000 applications to be dealt with throughout New Zealand, and these naturally could not all be heard at once. However, good progress was being made. ' "Tbelieve they are progressing very nearly, if not quite as fast, as' could be accomplished no lnatter.how many Cfmmissions were appointed." He added that in many parts of the country the Crown was the chief mortgagee, and it was of.necessity jtaking a long timo for Crown officers to value the whole of tho properties involved. In the.meantime some.of the cascs could not be brought on for .hearing., However, the Crown lending departments. were preparing for the .work in ia systematie manner, so that all would be complete within a reasonable time. The wcik of clearing the cascs would !then be greatly expedited. « "
