LARGE OFFERING
Poor Quality Cattle at Waipukurau ROMNEY HOGGETS 25A A large offering of cattle was made at "Waipukurau to-day, of which there was only a small percentage of quality sorts. In the fat pens only one entry of prime finish was offered, this being a pen of- medium-framed cows which made to £9 12/-. The remainder of the pens of the cows were unfinished and light, and well below butchers' quality. A number were in store condition only, and made a poor offering. Ox beef consisted of two pens of small to medium grown bullocks, which made good saies to £10 10/-. Values throughout this section were fully on a par with late saies, with some of the pens cnaking dear buying. In the store cattle section breeding cows were eheaper by fully 10/- a' head. The offering included some useful lines which were slow to trade. Some quality was shown in the fat sheep pens, wethers making to 41/6, and ewes to 34/-. A small entry of store sheep sold readily, Romney wether hogget's topping the market for the season at 25/-. Realisations were as under: — FAT CATTLE. Seven Aberdeen Angus cross cnedium framed cows, poor condition and' unfinished were passed at £5 15/-. In from Porangahau, 8 similarly bred cows in rough condition, requiring a good deal of finish, made £6 3/-. An entry of five Abqrdeen Angus bullocks, medium framed, in rough condition, were passed at the good figure of £10 12/6. A pen of 8 horned Hereford cows, very light condition^ being a second quality line, realised £5 17/-. Seven dehorned Hereford-Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks, small to mediuin grown, and' medium to light prime finished brought £10 12/6. Five clean bred dehorned Hereford medium framed cows, medium to prime finish, made £7 8/-. An entry of weaner Aberdeen Angua heifers in good condition made £3 17/-. An entry of dehorned Hereford cows, store condition only, made £5 15/-. Two dehorned Hereford cows, medium framed, being the first prime entry offered, sold at £8 15/-. In the same pen two similar grown Aberdeen-Angus cows, prime finished and heavier than the previous entry, sold at £9 13/-. STORE CATTLE. An entry of 35 clean-bred Hereford heifers, most of which were dehorned, being in quite good order and depastured with Motere-bred AberdeenAngus bulls since November, were passed at £6 5/-. On accoimt of Ashcott Stathon, 20 Aberdeen-Angus breeding cows, in light to medium order, and depastured with Aberdeen-Angus bulls since December 1, brought £5 17/-. An entry of 26 similar-bred, cows, depastured with Aberdeen-Angus bulls and showing well up in calf, being in medium to good order, made £6 14/-. A line of 29 dehorned Hereford cows, mediura order, and depastured with Aberdebn- Angus bulls, 4were passed at £6 14/-. Down from Blackburn Station, 24 small Aberdeen-Angus weaner steers, medium order and hardy, sold at £5 3/-. Springing Jersey heifer, in medium order, sold at £4 2/6.. A Jersey cross springing third calver, good condition, realised £3 1/-. A similar fourth calver, springing, sold at £3 12/6. FAT SHEEP A pen of 32 medium ewes, in good killable condition, well woolled, sold at 26/4. Eiglit heavy extra prime wethers, well woolled, made a good entry of quality mutton to sell at 41/6. A maiden 6-th heavy extra prime line, jhand raised, brought 36/-. An entry of 46 heavy prime quality ewes, well woolled, in good order, sold in a line at 34/-. From the same source, 79 similar framed iighter finished ewes and later shorn, realised 29/1. STORE SHEEP An entry of Blackburn ewes, small to medium grown, mixed in wool and quality, showing well up, were passed at the remarkably good figure ^of 33/6. Down from. Te Uri, a line of 244 medium grown Romney wether hogget s, unshorn as lambs, in good doing order and healthy, sol'd at 21/3. In off hill country, 129 small to medium grown 2-th ewes in good condition, showing well up, brought 33/10. These ewes were very mixed in the wool, a percentage being very fine. A line of 161 Corriedale cross, medium framed, 2-th ewes (S.D.) in good order, brought 32/1. On account of Poulton Bros, Kopua, a line of well-grown Romney wether hoggets, unshorn as lambs, jn forward order and healthy, 'sold at 25/-.
