"When • he stowed away on the Tamaroa at Wellington on June 21 and hid behind the boilers, Montagu' Assender, a farm worker, aged 24, thought he was going to see his parents in England, but although he reported to the eaptain on the first night out, and tvorked well on tlio voyage, -he was.put off at Balboa and kept in prison from «Tuly 10 to Jxily 24 xintil placed aboard the Mataroa, which. Teturned to Aucldand on Saturday. Before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., to^ay, Assender pleaded guilty to stowing away. Tho police said that Assender ha-d worked well on both vessels. In a statement Assexxder had said that he was^ unable to obtain faxm worlc, and having no friends in New Zealand decided to stow away. The Magistrate .remanded him until Monday next for sentence. Full inquiries will be nxade in the meantime.
