MASS CELEBRATED IN MADRID

(Received 17, 8.45 a.m.) MADRID, Aug. 16, Masa was openly celebrated for the first time since July 19, 1936, on which date all churehes were closed. Admis6ion to Mass was by invitation only, and the general public were not informed. Father Leocardio, who offieiated, is helping the Government to re-establish freedom of thought in Spain and is recruiting Catholic priests for that purpose.
