WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Borough Council took place this evening, when the Mayor, Mr I. W. N. Mackie, presided over Crs. Bromeli, J. C. Windle, H. A. Martin, R. W. Carpenter, J. McCarthy and J. L. Brathwaite. The Town Clerk and engineer, Mr H. B. Smart% were also in attendance. The Town-planning Institute of New Zealand wrote inviting the council to apply for honorary membership, at an annual subscription of 10/-. — Request to be complied with. The refreshment branch ofdce, New Zealand Railways, wrote asking that the council charge for the removal of refuse from the local station be reduced to the same amount as is charged for private houses. It was pointed out that there was only a very emall quantity of refuse, and the service was only a bi-weekly on'e, — "It's only 6d a trip," commented the Mayor, "and they'll find they can't get it carted cheaper than that." It was decided to inform the branch that the council considered the charge a reasonable one, and that no reduction could be made. Mrs N. M. Dunning wrote oifering to supply three English limo trees to be planted in front of her property in Fleming road. — On the' motion of Cr. J. L. Brathwaite, it was decided that the council accept the offer and write thanldng Mrs Dunning for the trees. Aecounts totalling £928 4/5 were passed for paymentt Engineer's Report. The engineer reported as follows: — Sewer conneetions; Two connections have been made with the sewer, one in Kitchener street and one in Wallaee road. Roads and streets: Pat.ching, gradiug and other general maibtenance have been carried out as time permitted. Preparation for sealing: The roads to be sealed this summer are being tested and the work of preparation will be pui in hand as soon as possible. Speed restriction signs: Speed restriction signs have been erected by the Automobile Association where decided upon. Housing survey: The honsing survey, which was due 'for completion on July 31, has been delayed owing to pressure of other urgent matters, but will be finalised as so'on as possible. Rate subsidy: Application having been made foV the Government Subsidy on rates paid for the year 1936-37 the full amount has been received. Rate demands : All rate demands wbre posted on the 2nd inst. and to dato the sum of £156 3/4 has been paid. Arrears of rate's paid since April 1. amount to £117 1 6/6. Workers' dwellings; Two loans have been finalised and progress is being made with the ©rection of both dweliiugs.
