Fighting on Santander Front BLOODY ENCOUNTERS

(Received 16, 11.0 a.m.) MADRID, Aug. 15. Following a loyalist attack the rebels again abandoned Brunete, which was the scene of heavy fighting a fortnight ago. The insurgents, supported by 100 'planes, broke through the loyalist defenees at Santander at five points. When operations were suspended owing to fog, more than 20 Villages had been. taken, the position now being favona able for a further advance. Bloody hand-to-hand fighting with knives and bayonets occurred in sojfie places. A communique claims that 1500 prisoners were taken ineluding many offlcers.
