A. G, Penlingtou, M.A. Tke equipment will consist of an edectric gramophone of a special iwocabinet design and 615 records, whicli kave been specially ckosen as an anthology of recorded music, aucient and modern. Tkere wiU be also 54 albums in wkick to store tkese records and a walnut cabinet to hold tke albums. A separate four-drawer cabinet wiU contaiu printed card iudices of all ti e records in tke set, classified 'according to composer, title, medium and form. Tke Carnegie Corporation' s gift will supply a' wide range of works in recorded form and will be of great benefit to the pupils. The sckool already kas a number of sets of recorded operas. "I feel very proud about this gift," said Mr Penlington tkis morning in conversation witk a Herald-Tribune reporter. "It is gratifying fo know tkat such' an interest is taken iu the sckool, and, of course, a recognition of tkis nature is an konour to tko town as well as to tke sckool." Tke equipment is boiug selected by tke cordporation tkis monfk, and it is expected that it will be skipped for New Zealand early in October. The equipment will, therefore, probably arrive in Hastings shortly before tke sckool breaks up for the annual holidays and will be able to bo installed in readiness for tke oponing of fkq Pew sckool year. Tke Carnegie Corporation was started 13y a Seottisk business-man and philantkropist, Mr Andrew 'Carnegie, who emlgated to Pittsburgh, U.S.A., and founded iron and steel works which later became part of tke United States Steel Corporation. Mr Carnegie endowed a number of public libraries tlirougkout tke Engliskspeaking countriee of tke world, and establisked a fund known as tke Carnogio Trust for assisting students at tke Seottisk Universities. Tke Hastings Public Library, wkick was destroyed in tke 1931 eartkqualce, was a gift from tke Carnegie Corporation.
