TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD GARDENING SECTION

The August meeting of the gardening sectlon of the Napier Townswomen's Guild was held in St. John's schoolroom, Mrs Pegram preeiding over a good attendance of members and visitors. The 1937 committee announced its donation of a silver eup to be awardod to the runner-up in the points cornpetition, and this was on view. A party from Hastings comprising Mesdames Pickering, Kirkpatriek, Vaughan and Miss fcSliaw were the visitors and demonstratora for the afternoon. Mrs "Vaughan gave two demonstrations, the making of a bridal sheaf and paper flowers, both of which were carefully followed. The arrangement of layer bowl by Mrs Kirkpatriek proved delightful, a special feature being the coiour blending. Both demonstrators were warmly thanked. Tho competitions for the afternoon proved very popular and resulted:-r-Ball of flowers: Mrs C. Corner I, Mrs F. Pegram '2, Mrs G. Breen 3. Bowl of iceland poppies: Mrs Hurst 1, Mrs Briariey 2, Mrs Harris 3, Buttonhole: Mrs Hurst I, M.rs uorner 2, Mrs Pegram 3. Best ' flowor in the garaen: Miss Smith. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Pickering and Miss Shaw for judgiug tho competitions. A delicious afternoon tea served by the committee, as hostesses for the afternoon, was much *. enjoyed and terminated another successful gathering.
