Intoxicated in Charge of Motor-car

AUCKLAND, Last Night. A fine of £15 and the cancellation of \ his licence for twelve montKs was imposed in the Poli.ce Court this morning on - William Thomas Wain, aged 40, a masseur, of Gisborne^ for being in a State of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car. The police said that the car struck the rear wheel of a bicycle in Newmarket and the car stopped almost at tlxe moment of impact. It was seen that Wain was unsteady on his fcet. , Three-quarters of an hour later a doctor certified that he w;as under tho influence of Bquor although not drunk and it was unsafe for him to be in charge of a car. ' ~ 'Counsel said that- Wain had a considerable practice in Gisborne and asked that, if it was found necestsary to deal with his licence, that the period of cancellation should be brief. ^ , .
