WIDENING OF STREET
Havelock Works Project 1 00 PER CENT SUBSIDY SOUGHT Tho widening of Tanner strcet, Havelock NortK, as a project which could be carried out profitably by sustenance men when tlie present cemetery work is completed was suggestcd by tho clerk, Mr W. H. Anderson, at the meeting last" evening of the Havelock Horth Town Board. The work is to be done if the Government will grant a 100 per cent. subsidy for it. "I have talcon up with the xoads committee the matter of creating furtlier employment for the unemployed men at the conclusion of the cemetery job," said "Mr Anderson. "We suggest that tho widening of Tanner street bctween Duart road and Joll road be put forward to the Labour Department as an cssential job on which a subsidy from the Employment Promotion Fund could well be granted. I understand that tho Hawke's Bay County Council would be prepared to consider favourably the sharing of expenses with the board. Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., is taking the matter up with the department in Wellington." It yras decided to await information from Wellington. The roads committee was given authority to act.
