A happy party of Clive Women 's Tnstituto members took a surj^rise party to tlie, rcsidence of Mrs George Merritt, of Clive, in honour of her 70th birthday; Mrs Merritt was the Jirst president of tlie Clive Women'g' Institute, and she occupied that position for live years. during ..which she was greatly beloved by all. . Mrs Merritt is now one of the staunchest supporters of all in connectiori with" Women's institute work. , A very jolly time was spent with games, compctitions and community smging A delicious supper was served, a lovcly birthday cake taking the place of lionour on the wcll-laden suppor table. A sinall gift from the Institute was handed to Mrs Merritt who, in a happy speccli, roturned thanks, assuring all of the great pleasure it gave her to see so many present on - her. birthday.
