Monthly Meeting Held

-WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. At the monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hospital Board to-day, the chairman, Mr W. H. Rathbone, presided over Messrs T. P. Hunter, G. Warren, H. G. Hawthorn, C. Thomsen, W. Matthews, 1). Eddy, L. Glenny, and 1). W. Neild. Dr. W. B. Fislier, medieal superintendent. of tlm District Hospital, Dr. P. 0. Anderson, medieal superintendent of Pukeora Sanatorium, and the managing, -secretary, Mr P. R. Smyrk, were in attendance. A letter from the Director-General of Health stated, in response to a request by the, boartf, that arraugements would be made as soon as possible for a visit by thq Director, Division of Hospitals. — It was decided to send a further request for an early visit. In a section of its report dealing with tho surgical treatment of tuberculosis, the hnance committee recommended that having discussed this subject with both medieal superintendents, we consider the board should approve of the principle as outlined in the special reports submitted by Drs. Short and Anderson,' but before taking the matter up with the ' contributory boards, copies of tho reports to be forwarded to the Director-Gen-eral of Health, with the request that he should expedite the meeting between representatives of the Palmerston North and Waipawa Hospital Boards, this subject to be included on the order paper for that meetings. In connection with the special report of the travelling tuberculosis officer ro the widening of the tuberculosis elinic movement, the committee recommended that consideration of this report bo deferred pending the proposed meeting with the Palmerston North Hospital Board, ,as outlined in the above recomjnendatiop.
Monthly vouchers, to a total of £4,466 3/10 wero approvcd for payment. The Medieal Superintendent, Dr. W. B. Fisher, reported that the number of patients in the hospital at the end of the inonth was 72, four less th§n at the last return. During the month 84 had been admitted and 85 discharged; three had died. There had been no deaths from infectious or contagious diseases, and omly one caso oi' diphtheria had been admitted. Three cases had been dischargcd, and none remained at tho end of tlio month, Seven major and 31 niinor opcrotions had been perforiued. Tho matron of tho Rathhono Maternity Hospital, Miss L. Bridge, ieportecl that eleven babies had been born during JuJy. Bookings for the next three months were August 10, September 3, .Octobcr 3. Dr. P. C. Anderson, Medieal Suwerintendent of Pukeora Sanatorium reported : The daily average number of patients duriug the month was 130.1. Details of the boards responsible for these patients and the numbers are as follows : — Auckland 40, Wellington 32, Pensions Department 8, Wairarapa 3, Palmerston North 9, Waiapu 1, Tauranga 2, Taranaki 6, Patea 1, Waipawa 1, Thames 2, Hawera l, Kaipara 1, Wairoa 2, Cook 3, Wanganui 1, Ifowke's Bay 4, Waikato 9 and Waihi 1.
