A Lesson From the Pas!
Sir, — I sympathise with the feelings of people who hate to see trees and shrubs cut down and so, I am sure, does our worthy Mayor. However, there are cases where it is neeessary. When I was a young man a reiative of mine married a man who owned an old liouse surrounded by' many acres of garden and park. Each tree and shrub was sacred to the owner and his family. His young wife had the faculty of seeing thi^ags as they should be and with persisteht tact she managed to take a tree down here and a shrub there, until at the end of 40 years she had turned the place into a perfect delight to the eye. This was not done without bitter opposition from the family. And so 1 am prepared to give the Mayor and his adviseris the credit of knowing what they are about when it com.es to beautifying Hastings, for I know the Mayor loves his town and, if we will back him he will make it something worthwhile. — Yours, etc., '.EXPERIENCE. Hastings, Aug, 12, 1937.
