A great glacier lake brealsing swept down the Simo valley, razing farms and Idlling stock* The approaching roar 1 warned the inhabitants, who, barely escaping death, fled up the hillsides, whence theysaw their homes destroyed. The flood originated in the glacier Hardanger Joekelen, where the hot weather created a new lake under the ice. This pierced the glacier, causing an avalanche of millions of tons of water and ice.
