Woman's Gruesome Crime in New .York (Received 12, 8.40 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 11, A gruesome inassacre of over 800 city pigoons was perpotrated in peaceful Vcrdi Square in ihe heart of Jlanhattan by an eklerly vvornan accompauied by a sinai I dog. Tlie poisoner entercd the Squire during the morning, scnttered seed and hurried away. The pigoons becamo distressed within a few minutes after • ating the sced and dosperately flew to puddles seeking water. Presently they began dying in mid flight, their bodles hurtling to earth were scattered by the impact, blood flecking the plotg of grass and also the statue of tlie composer Verdi. It Was discOvered tliat the seed was impregnated witb strydhnine, calculated quickly to dry the moisture from tlie body, after which drinking was immediately fatal, Protests are pouring in froin the Society for Prevention of Criielty to Animals, The police are Seeking the poisoner. It is estimated more than 300 Were Idlled.
