Tarawera and Orini Blocks AREAS FOR DEVELOPMENT

' Particulars of thc areas upon which if is proposed to begin operations under the Government's schome for . dovcloping a numher of reverted Crown socurities were given by tlie .Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, in an interview last evening. As alroady announced by the Prime Ministoi", the. Rt.Hon. M. J. Savage, tho Go'verximent intends to make a beginning .w,itfi tho' d^ vclopment of, these lands to augment its .cndeavqurs. to provide for - the absorption of surplus labour. Among tlie blocks meritioned ' by the Minister are the Edgecumbe block of 3000 acres, Tarawera No. 2 of 800 acres, and Tarawera No. 3 of 400 acres. "These blocks eomprise Crown lands and are situated just off the Rangitaiki Plains, near the Tarawera 1'iver, and adjoin the Tarawera and Onepu blocks, which have been developcd. by the Small Farms Board with remarkable succesa, said Mr Langstone. "I am satisfied from my own ofiscrvations that a vory fine settlement can be established here on wbat at on'e' time was eonsidered to be almost worthless land. . . The Native Departmcnt is also undertaking development in this locality. "Then there is the Orini block, an arca of 400 aeres, "on the Rangitaiki Plains', in the same locality. Portion of this block is excellent land, but requires druining. It is proposej to dxain this area, and it will then work in excellently with higher blocks and can b'e used as a fattemng paddock to top off the stock used for development on the blnr.kR
