BUDGET SURPLUS
Victorian Finances Improve (lloceived 12, 8.4 a.m.) MELBOUKNE, Aug. 11. Disclosing the first surplus for eight years the Victorian Budget was prosented by the Premier, Mr Dunstan, today, The surplus amounts to £21,000. For 1937-38 it is proposed to reduee the unemployment tax by 20 per cent., giving the taxpayers a concession of £300,000. Tlie baso rate of payment to sustenance workers is increased by 10 per cont. The year's revenue was £25,116,000 and the expenditure £25,000,000. There is a small surplus of £1025 on the railway operations, largely owing to a reduction in tho capital liability by saojoofyooo. -
