Took Bets Outside Riccarton

CHRISTCHURCH, Thig Day. A fine of £30, in default - three months' imprisonment, was imposed today on WilJiam Joseph Brosnafian, who pleaded guilty to bookmaking at Riccarton yesterday. It was stated by the police that Brosnahan was taking bets outside the course and had in his possession £38 2/-. He had been fined £20 for a similar offence a few years ago. - Counsel said that Brosnahan had been doing business only in a small way.
