CONCERT AND DANCE BY PAKOWHAI INSTITUTE

The Pakowhai Women's Institute beld a concert and dance in the Church Hall, wben a' happy time was spcnt by all present. The hall was packed to tbe doors. The music for tbe dance was supplied by McKay's orchestra. Mrs Whittington (president) announced tbe items and said sbe was pleased to see such a large audience.Tbe programme commenced witb a Dutcb market scene, members of the singing circle being dressed as Dutcb lads and lassies,' complete witb stalis for tbe checses and vegetables. Tbere were cboruses from "Miss Hook of Holland," and a clog dance by Miss Verna Gledbill, also seveifbl locai jykes. Mis,s P. Boshier ren'dered twb' vocal solos, and Mr. Speakrpan ' kept tbe audience laughing witb . bumorous recitations. "Pe-ters Gets a ltise" was tbe title Of a sbort on'e-act play, wfitten and produced specially for tbe coUcert. Tbo cast was ; Lord.Lux, -Mr G. Howard ; Hon. Eric, Mr Dl-Brunton; Peters, lu's selyant/'Mr C. Bruiiton; Lady Jane, Miss Holmes ; Don Keresino, Mr S. Holmes. Tbe scene was a baunted bedroom, and wben tbe ghost appeared everyone wondered wbat "\tould bappennext. Mrs Speakffian and Miss Mary Wbite gave two pianofdrte duets, and Miss Verna Gledbill a skipping dance. The yourcger members sbowed the audience wliat tbey could do in a oneact play ent-itled' "The Bride".- Tliose talcing. -part were: — Miss Joyce Irvine, Miss Gwynne Itobinson ; Mrs; "Irvine (ber mother), Miss Ruth Lissette; Miss Judith irvine, Miss Joyce Whittington j Miss fjparrow, J\Iiss Lethie Russell; Madam • Grace, Miss Joyce Redersen ; Busan (a, maid), Miss Eline Gabrielsen. A conlpetition fOr an ' infant's pink knitted outfit was won by Mrs J Herbert, Napier. Mrs S. Holmes and Miss May White acted as accompanistes for the evening. Memebers of the institute served a very- dainty supper. Tbe scenery used was painted by Alr Holmes.
