Our Own Correspondent.)

American Pedigrees Sell at Auckland OUTSTANDING ANIMALS

(From

s AUCKLAND, Last Night. 1 Unusual interest was crcated to-day by the sale of 11 bulls which had been sent to the Dominion by Wallace MacMonnies, who is regarded as the leading importer of Jerseys in North America. Twelve animals sent to New Zealand were quarantined for 60 days after arrival in the Dominion. Some of tho leading breeders of the Dominion were among the large number who attended. The sale was an innovhtion in that the majority of bulls were aged, though guaranteed as breeders. The sale was a gamble more or less on account of the age of the bulls, but from the point of vicw of the auctioneer the results of the sale were regarded as satisfaetory. One of the bulls was withdrawn from sale, and the average prico obtaiUed for the remaining 11 was 2S7 guineas. The top price of 560 guineas was paid by a Waikato breeder, Mr. W. S. McEwcn, of Cambridge, for a threc-year-old animal. Mr. McEwen's top prico purchaae, Susio's Oxford Design, was junior champion at the National Dairy Show of America in 1935 and well represents dcsign and quality, which is outstanding in the world to-day. The high price of 525 guineas was paid for a rising cight-year-old, Sybil's Star Gamboge, by Dr. G. Walker, of Whangarei, who has one of the most "outstanding lierds in the Dominion. It is claimed that this bull is the most outstanding type of .Tersey seen in the Dominion. It was grand champion Of the National Dairy Show of America in 1934. The animal will be an aequisition to "an already fino herd of Dr. Walker. Another outstanding purchase was that of tlie threo-year-old Noble's Design, by Mr. T. Smitli, of Otorohanga, who paid 400 guineas for the animal.
