On July 23 President Roosevalt's Supreme Court proposals Were overwkelmingly defeated when the Senate, by 70 votes to 20, recommended the Bill to the Judiciary Committee, which was instructed to design a new measuro reforming Lower Court procedure, but eliminating the provisions for the a?ieration of the Supreme Court. The decision followed a meeting 'ri the Judiciary Committee, at which tne t pposition demonstrated was sufficientyi strong to fotce the abaUdonment of tlie measUte. Congress is expected to adjourn shortly, possibly before the enactment cf other important measures in President Roosevelt's programme.
