Freights From Pacific Coast Increase

AUCKLAND, This Day. "Freights are 2J times greater than a year ago while f.o.b, prices have advanced from 25 to 30 per cent." said Mr R. T. Venderfield, managing-director of a leading timber firm of Sydney, who ie travelling to Vancouver by the Aorangi to investigate problems conneeted with the carriage of timber from the Pacific Coast of America to Australia. "Some shippers have not stood up to their contracts," he said, "and failure to deliver is a tserious matter. One of the reasons for the high freights is the use of tramp steamers for the carriage of scrap metal from Ameriea to Japau. Laet year shipments exceeded 1.000,000 tons."
