BURGLAR STEALS £40
Forces Entry to Napier Club Premises , BRICK THROUGH WIND0W ' More than £40 was stoleu ITom the premises of the Napier Club on the Marine Parade, Napier, in a daring burglary in the early hours of yesterday morning. The mouey stolen, the takings at the club for Saturday, could not be banked, but was hidden in » secret hiding-place. The burglar apparently forced entry by throwing a brick through oue of the low windows of the buildings fronting the Marine Parade. From thel'e the intruder made his way to the bar, forcing a central door to gain access, although side doors at each end of the bar were not locked. The two ca»sli registers on tlie bar, each containing about £7 in tsilvcr uud copper, wer« broken open and l'ifled, altbougb tbe thief seemed to scorn small change. This .is lllustrated by the fact that, aithough all the half-crowns and fiorins were removed from both cash registers, smalier silver and copper coins wera left untouched. The greater part O.f th© takings, amounting to slightly over £40, wer« hidden iu a recess in part of the bar, and the burglar, apparently knowing of the hidihg-place, broke it open and removed some more money. Neither liquor nor cigarettes were removed.
