Canadian Society Places 14,655 Bibles in 1936
TORONTO— Tho total number of Bibles. placed in hotels, hospitals, prisons and schools by Canadian Gideons during the past year totaled 14,055, an allrtime ; record, said W. J.. Green, Canadian secretary, at a commemoration service held here xecently marking the twenty-sixth anniversary of the movement. ■ The Bibles have bedn distributed from British Guiana to Aklavik, within the Arctic Circle, and as far east as Jerusalem and India. The request of Toronto Board of Education for ■ 9000 Bibles has already been almost comjpletely met, as 800 have been placed in tho schools. . Slumping into a chair, Homer Smith stared ahead with unseeing eyes. . "Tell me, darling," pleaded his wife. She came over to Homer and lifted his chin in her hand. Homer moistened his lips with his tongue. "The worst has happened," he said dismally. "No," " Yes, " said . Homer. ' ' This af ternoon, just before closing time, the boss ealled me in and gave me the business."
