( By Telegraph-

(Keceived 6, 10.10 a.m.) ROME, Aug. 5. Ihe official Vatican spokesman, with reference to reports that the Vaticau had recognised General Franco's Government, said it was true that the Vatican had approved the choice of Senor Churruca as General Franco's representative to the Holy See. It was also true that the Pope had sent to Nationalist Spain Cardinal Antoniutti, who liad been instructed to attend to Chui'ch interests in the territory occupied by General Franco's troops, butneither representative had been granted fche diplomatic immunity automatically resulting from uormal diplomatic relations. It might be said that there was rccognition de facto, but not de jure, by the Vatican of the Salamanca Government. Diplomatic circles closely in contact with the Vatican believe that this distinction has been made by the Church to avoid antagonising) Valencia, thereby protecfcing Cathoiics der Valencia's authority.
