Pirates Retain Banner . UNITED GOLD DEFEAT HUIA The first series of games ip the third round of the Hastings Hockey SubAssociation competition were played yesterday in ideal weather. The grounds were in probably the bost condition they have been in'this season, with the result that some brilliant hockey was witnessed. The main attractlon was the match between Pirates and. Waimarama. As anticipated, the game was an e^cellent one, and the result was in doubt uutil the final whistle. The game wa? played at a terrifio paoe, and up till hajf-tiine? there was no score. Soon after the commencement of the second spell Waimarama opened their account when Te Whero seored two goals in succession. Pirates were not to og outdone, and Macdonald ran through to soore their iirst goal. With 13 minutes to go, the game seemed lost as far as Pirates were concerned^ but they stuck to their tusk. From a scramble in front of the goal Macdonald scored again. With only a iew minutes to go Pirates attaeked strongly and B. Walsh finiahed offi a good movement by scoring an exeelient goal. No further score was registered, apd Pirates wero the winners by three goals to two. ' Messrs Schroder and Bpuse were efficient umpirea. On .No, ? gropndL Hnited Gold just got home from Huia by four goals to three. Huia flejded a short team, but ithey mahe the game interesting. Goals fpr fhe winners werp pcpfpd by Boyle (2), McNab and Q 'Neill, and Lordy, :who played an exeelient game for Huia, scored. the lpseys' three goals, Mr Mardon was the umpire. . JHNIOBS, Karori elinched, the competition by defeating Pirates by fouf goals tp two. Pirates played with pnly seven. nmn, but the game was faat apd, interestingGoals for Karori were scored by fiymPns (2), Henderson and Bone. -gL MaePpnald scored both goals for Pirates. Mardon and Schroder uinpired, At the High School grounds, United Blue defeated High School by three goals to nil. Goals for Blue were scored by Saundens ('2) and Orirtis (1).- Messrs Hawkins' und S. MaoDonald rimpired.
