LULL FOLLOWS BATTLE STORM IN SPAIN
(Eeceievd 5, 12 noonj LONDON, Aug. 5. The Times ' Salamanca correspondent says: "Insurgent Spain lulled afler the storm, over Brunette where not even a flicker of civil life is returning. At Varelas troops are consolidating the position they recaptured with a view to rendering a repetition o£ the Government forces. ' surprise attaclts impossible. ' ' The situation round Madrid has been little changed by the last month's fighting. Insurgent columns operating on the Teruel front entered the Cueuca province but do not intend to advance in force, contenting themselves with cleaning-up and cutting ofi; the retreat of loyalists, 350 of whorn made surreudej*. "The whole countryside west of Teruel is a wilderness of deserted camps. Bridges are blowfi. up and roads are unpassable owing to wrecked lorries. The villages are deserted and the viliagers are hiding in the pine woods."
