Clydebank, however, takes the «palm at present, Mr Stewart Orarer having a large number Bullding at Wairoa Hospital. The contradtors for the erection of what is called tfthe maid's cottage" at the rear of the Wairoa Hospital, is malting good progrcss with the work. The whole of the under-strueture is a'ready completed, and the frame should be up during the course of the week. The site is at the rear of the isolation block and well away from tho main buildings. Social Functlcn. At Clydebank, Wairoa, the ot.her evening, the home and woolshed was the scene of a pleasant social gather111 g, the 21st birthday of Mr Orton Mclvenzie, second son of Mr and Mrs D. MoKenzic. The toast of the evening was that of the guest of honour, and i.lie cako was mado by Mrs J. McBuruie. The presentation was made by Mr E. Pattison, who wisheu him a long and appy life. The dance mnsic was supplied by Mrs H. B. Taylor, and Messrs A. J. McBurnie and S. Forsyth. .Mr B. Smith filled the ^ole of M.C. Vital Statistics. r The vital statistics for the Wairoa distict for the past month, compared with the corresponding month in 1936 ar& as follows: Births, Eiiropean 7 (7) ; Maoris, 4 (4). Total births or seven months, 87 (76). Deaths, Europeans, 4 (3); Maoris, 5 (1); seven months' total, 29 (31). Marriages, 1 (2); total for the seven months, 23 (22). Basketball and Footbail Following are the results of the return matches played between the Takapau and Waipawa primary school teams on Coronatiion Park, Waipawa; — Basketball: Waipawa A 15, beat Takapau A 5; Takapau B 10, beat Waipawa B 6. FootbaLL: Waipawa proved too strong for Takapau, winning by 57 points to.nil. For Waipawa tries wero scored by Maulder (4), Drako (3), Safchwell ('2)% Maaka (2), McCleary, Marsh, Meha, and Clarry one each. Marsh and Maaka converted three each Rainfall at Waipawa. During the month of July rain fell in Waipawa on 13 days, the total rainfall being 2.98 inches. The total for 1937 to_ date is 16.69 inches. Coming Ball at Waipawa. , Following on the success achieved by Ihe Waipawa D.H.S. Old Pupils.' association in the past two years with the re-nnion dance, the committee has received a number of requests to run a ball this year, and the lir/t annual ball of the Association will-be held in the Waipawa Municipal Theatre on Friday, September 3. The association has been formed with a view to creating an organisation which, in addition to providing a means of bringing together past pupils of the school, ean interest itself in matters pertaining to the weliare of the school. In the past year assistance was given to the school committee in tho matter of sports trophies.
