Remits Discussed by N.Z. Growers HAWKE'S BAY VIEWS

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Various remits relative to the export of fruit, brought forward by provincial districts, were dealt with by the Dominion conference of the New Zealand fruit exporters at Wellington as under: — "That the Government be asked to pay a compensating minimum price on all fruit exported through the, New Zealand Fruit-Export Control Board," moved by Nelson. — Carried. "That no degrading by inspectors be allowed without consultation with the exporter," moved by Canterbury. — Lost. "That the Director of Horticulture be asked to confer with the Export Fruit Board before making any alteration to export regulations, " moved by Hawke's Bay. — Carried. Mr. J. "That the Fruit Board be recommended to curtail a number of varieties included in 'good grade' for export," moved by Hawke's Bay.— Lost, being opposed by all other delegates. A similar fate also befel the following moved by Hawke's Bay: — "That the amount of allowable Sturmer Jtusset be substantially reduced in both extra fancy and fancy grades." ' ' That the grading regulation requiring 'good grade' Jonathan to have at least 5 per cent. red colour should be amended to 5 per cent. of striped colour, " moved by Hills Union. — Carried. "That Ballarat size 80, Granny Smith size 96, Kome Beauty size 113, and London Pippin size 113 be allowed for export," moved by Blenheim.— Lost. "That the opening and closing dates of Cox's Orange and Jonathan be dis: cussed in relation to condition of arrival overseas," moved by Hills Union. — Carried. ' "That the 180 size an pears -be included in the C group," moved by Redwood Valley and strongly opposed by Hawke's Bay. — Lost. "That as the ripening qualities of P. Barry pears are unduly retarded by prompt pre-cooling after paeking, the Control Board be a'sked to see that not more than 14 days elapse between picking and paeking," moved by Hawke's Bay. — Carried. "That the contemplated introduction of oiled wraps for undversal nse for 1938 export be not proceeded with until their use has proved to be of definite value," moved by Hawke's -Bay. — Carried. "That it be a recommendation to the Institute of Horticulture that the Bledisloe Cup should be competed for annually in Wellington instead of in a different centre each year, in order that all exporting districts may compete on more equitable conditions, particularly regarding transport," moved by the Hills Union. — Carried. "That there be only one label attached to the export case and that partieulars be stamped on the case at the other end " moved by Hawke's Bay.— Lost.
